Church and Community Links

Links with the church and the local community is very important to us.

All Saints Church is at the bottom of Butts Lane and we go there to celebrate Harvest, Christmas, Easter and our Year 6 leavers service.
Children and teachers also use All Saints to enhance the RE (Religious Education) curriculum. They learn all about the church and the special names of the parts of the church, children also use the church for drawing and sketching. The children love it when they learn about Christenings and weddings when they get to dress up and act these special occasions out!

In the past we have carried out joint projects such as the ‘Easter Experience’ or ‘Christmas Experience’ when ‘stations’ for families to visit have been put up and hosted by school and church volunteers. People can follow the stories and often have an activity to do at each ‘station’.

The children of the school in the past have helped with the village litter pick, sung to the local lunch club, helped with local fundraising, hosted local community events and we always invite local residents to our events or just to come up and hear readers. Members of the lunch club very kindly helped with knitting for us to make sets of Christmas characters for our bible story sacks. This year we have invited residents to learn how to use computers, taught by Year 5 and 6 children!

Children from the school can often be seen around the village or Lydiard Park learning about their local area – this way they learn to be proud of the area as well as their school.
